Section 7 - Trades

Trades

Trades are both allowed and highly encouraged in the BPFL. One must keep in mind, however, that the BPFL trade committee (selected each year at the Annual GM Meeting and Entry Draft) must approve all trades before they can be made official for game play.

Since free agent pools and salary specifics can get complicated, the current setup of the BPFL does not include either area of team management. It should be noted that the only way a NFL player can be selected into the league is through the College/Free Agent draft (explained in Section 8 - Drafts).

Deadlines  updated

The same deadline used for starting lineups will also serve as the trade deadline for using traded players for that week. Trades can still be made after that week’s deadline but cannot include players that are involved in that weekend’s games. If teams are discussing a trade involving players who in active starting lineups for that season, they must wait until after the week’s last NFL game to make it official with the league.

Each year, a final trade deadline for the BPFL season will be implemented on the weekly lineup deadline before the first week 13 game of the NFL season. After this date, no trades can be made between BPFL teams until the day after the completion of the BPFL Super Bowl.  Of note, this is the same deadline used for making both coaching changes and Reserve Slot moves for that season.

Trading Process and Regulations

Trades can be made using multiple players, odd player exchanges (2 for 1, 3 for 2, etc.), they may even include draft picks for draft picks straight up, or even draft picks for players.

In terms of draft picks, BPFL teams may trade any draft picks from current or future years without limit, as long as the pick is a 10th round pick or higher.  Any draft pick later than a 10th round selection is not a tradable commodity.  Other than that, the only two aspects of a BPFL team’s roster and assets they can’t trade is their coach, and their waiver draft status.

In making odd player trades, it is important to remember that the team that gains the extra player in the deal only holds an extra roster spot until the league's next College/Free Agent Draft.  Each BPFL team is required to start each season with even rosters of no more and no less than 38 players.

It is important to note that a player can not be traded back to their original team within the same regular season schedule.  Players are also not allowed to be traded back to their original team as the future considerations portion of the same deal, regardless of when the deal is finalized.  Players can be returned to their original team in trades if the deal originates before the BPFL Draft, or if the deal is made during the offseason.
