Section 5 - Playoffs and Pro Bowl

BPFL Playoffs

The completion of the BPFL regular season schedule will provide standings that will show teams ranked 1 through 4 in each division.  Those rankings will determine both the divisonal prizes for the year, as well as the rankings for BPFL playoff matchups that are played in correspondance with weeks 15-17 in the NFL schedule.

The first round of the BPFL playoffs, played using statistics from week 15 in the NFL schedule, matches up seeds 1 vs. 4 and 2 vs. 3 in each division in what is called the Divisional Semi-Finals.  In this round, the division winners on each side get a 10 point home field advantage, and the 2nd place finisher in the division gets the regular 4 point home field score.

The winners of those two pairs of games match up in the Divisional Championship games, played during week 16 of the NFL schedule.  The better seed of the two has the regular 4 point home field advantage in each game, and the winners of both are dubbed Division Champions and earn the right to represent their divison in the BPFL Super Bowl played during week 16 of the NFL season.

To reflect the neutral philosophy of the NFL Super Bowl, there will be no home field advantage for the BPFL Super Bowl matchup.  The winner of the BPFL Super Bowl during week 17 will be crowned BPFL Champion for that season. With that accomplishment, the winning franchise will have its team name engraved on the BPFL Super Bowl trophy and the right to show it off in the rec room of their choice until someone can take it from them in a subsequent season.  (For details on prize money, see Section 10 - Prizes and Finances)

BPFL Pro Bowl Game  updated

Every year, upon the completion of the regular season schedule, BPFL owners will vote players to a Pro Bowl game to be held in conjunction with week 18 of the BPFL season.  Each of the league’s eight owners submits a starting line-up for their respective BPFL divisions, picking the players they feel are most deserving to play in the Pro Bowl game with respect to the quality of season they just completed.  Each owner is excluded from choosing players on their own roster, thus allowing a more unbiased result in selecting the teams.

Player substitutions will likely be needed for either injury reasons or a player's expected inactivity during games before the playoffs.  With this in mind, substitutions for the game will be dtermined by the division winning coach for both Beer and Pizza Division teams.  The original Pro Bowl roster will still be generated based on scoring performance during the season, but the division winners will able to substitute players accordingly and submit a lineup before the game.  Beginning with the 2018 season, the losing GM in the BPFL Super Bowl of that year will be responsible for scoring the game and submitting a completed boxscore to the rest of the league.

Players who are selected to the game but who don't make the lineup due to substitution reasons above will still be given credit for their appointment in the record books.  The Pro Bowl game is played for divisional bragging rights only, and is scored the same as any other BPFL game.

As an incentive to win, the losing division in the Pro Bowl game buys the league pizzas at the following year's entry draft.
